Arena CEO @ml_angelopoulos says he picks writing models based on expert rankings because he doesn’t actually like the kind of AI writing the general public prefers:
"Experts can tell the differences between models that are giving them responses that are just slop and models that are giving strong factual responses that get to the heart of an issue."
"I don't actually like the way that the general population likes writing."
"I ask it, 'What's the capital of France?' It's gonna tell me Paris. It's not gonna be like, 'Oh, what a great question. That's a fascinating topic.' That's part of the reason we built style control, 'cause frankly, we just couldn't take it anymore."
